Elizag, the winner of the last Nitty Gritty Slam is currently involved in a Video Slam on the Poetry Slam Inc. website with her poem “I Am Troy Davis”. Here is what she had to say about the competition and her choice in poem:

I’m late getting this up. Thanks for viewing and voting. I fell in love with slam poetry (winning my first ever slam helped lol). “I Am Troy Davis” is dedicated to Troy’s sister Martina, who died 12/1 (10 weeks after Troy’s execution). Her courage moved me to get involved and I hope this poem does the same for others. I think a poem should move as a positive power in the world. And I live in New York’s Mohawk River Valley and slam with Albany’s Nitty Gritty slam (in love with them all too).
