Wellspring House – A Retreat for Writers and Artists

Sep 28, 2012 by Thom Francis | writing life

Notebooks

Dan Wilcox forwarded this an email from the folks at Wellspring House in Ashefield, Mass about their new fall and winter rates.

Need to boost your creativity? Wellspring House, Artist and Writer Retreat, in Ashfield MA has openings for the fall and winter months and has just reduced its rates to $50/night $200/week. This artist’s and writer’s retreat is an excellent place to get work done, enjoy the company of others doing the same and experience the beauty of a New England village. Not to mention great food at Elmer’s! Contact Preston Browning.

The Wellspring House is in beautiful Ashfield, Massachusetts, right in the Berkshire Mountains, surrounded by absolute serenity to help you concentrate on your writing and art. Within minutes, you can take in local farms and lakes, and the town park has tennis courts, a basketball court, a playground and ball fields.  Ashfield is only 35 minutes away from the Amherst /Northampton arts scene.

Wellspring HouseIn Wellspring House, Ann and Preston have attempted to develop not only lodging but also a sense of place imbued with the interrelation between the human environment and the natural one.

Originally a carriage house, built circa 1890, Wellspring House was completely renovated by Ann with an emphasis on private and quiet spaces.  It is set against a densely wooded hill with winding paths and sheltered nooks.  Surrounding the house are terraces and flower and vegetable gardens.  In season, raspberries and blackberries grow wild on the fringes of the property, which is bordered on two sides by towering spruce trees.
