On Tuesday, February 18 we are moving to our brand new venue, The Low Beat (335 Central Ave., Albany), for the 64th edition of Nitty Gritty Slam, Albany’s one and only poetry slam series.
We are very excited to be moving with Howard Glassman to his new venue, The Low Beat. We have worked with Howard to bring poetry and spoken word to Valentine’s for over 10 years and we are honored that he has invited us to come along with him to Central Ave. We can’t wait to put our Nitty Gritty stamp on the stage and start a new tradition of bringing the best in local poetry to The Low Beat.
We have had an incredible third season so far with three great poets, Kevin Peterson, Bless, and Poetyc Visionz, already punching their tickets to the Grand Slam in the spring.
For the second half of the season, the top spot is firmly held my Algorhythm (14) with Dan Wilcox (6), Samson (6), and Avery (5) creeping up the points ladder. Who will step up and wrestle the first place spot away from Algo? Who can jump ahead of the tied Dan and Samson? Who willl fill out the Grand Slam lineup?
We have seen some new faces at the shows in the past few weeks and have been excited to hear new voices take the stage. Who will enter the fray this time around and join us for another great night of poetry and spoken word?
The road to NPS 2014 has begun and there is still time to get on board. The next stop is NGS #64 at The Low Beat!
Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and The Frequency North Reading Series have brought slam back to Albany with the Nitty Gritty Slam.
NGS takes place at The Low Beat (335 Central Ave.) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday’s of each month.
If you’re not into slam, but want to get on stage and share your work, we have an open mic before the slam.
Sign up begins at 7:00pm, open mic starts at 7:30, and then Thom Francis starts the slam at 8:00pm.
Admission is $5.00 ($3.00 with student ID). This is an 18+ show.
