Albany Poets is proud to welcome 2017 Stephen A DiBiase Poetry Prize winner Cheryl Rice as the featured reader at the tenth edition of Albany Poets Presents on Wednesday, June 21 at Restaurant Navona, 289 New Scotland Avenue, Albany.
Albany Poets Presents puts a spin on the typical poetry event in the local literary community by highlighting one poet every two months with an interview and Q&A session following the reading.
Host Thom Francis says, “Cheryl Rice is one of my favorite poets from the Hudson Valley since I have been a part of the poetry community. I have always appreciated her support of the Albany poetry community – bridging the gap between the Capital Region and the Kingston / Woodstock area. It’s going to be great to sit down and chat about her history, process, and inspirations.”
Cheryl A. Rice, a Long Islander by birth, has made the Hudson Valley her home for over thirty years. She has participated in poetry events from Albany to Middletown, NY, and made live appearances on WDST-FM (Woodstock, NY) and WKZE-FM (Sharon, CT). Rice is the founder and host of the semi-annual Sylvia Plath Bake-Off, allegedly the world’s only combination open mic/baked goods contest. She was accepted into two poetry workshops at The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY with former NYS Poet Laureate Sharon Olds. Her poetry has appeared in The Baltimore Review, Bitterroot, Chronogram, The Country and Abroad, Exit 13, The Florida Review, Home Planet News, Mangrove, Metroland, The Pelican Review, Other: —–, The Temple/El Templo, and The Woodstock Times, and online at https://albanypoets.com, http://poetrypoetry.com, and http://www.poetryspokenhere.com.
Albany Poets Presents will be recorded live to be distributed through the Albany Poets website and other outlets.
